I'm few weeks late as songkran was 2 weeks ago. Songkran is the Thai new year, also known as the water festival. People pour scented water over buddah statues to 'cleanse' the buddah, it is believed that doing this will bring you good luck. The fun side of songkran is the water guns. Everyone, everywhere in thailand has no problem dumping buckets of ice cold water( or squirting you with their gun) over your head and wiping powder on your face, while screaming happy new year thailand (often in amazingly broken english). They believe it brings you and themselves good luck.

In honor of the students of montreal and thier protests against rising tuition fees, i am posting photos today of the student protests in Rome from DEcember 14th of 2010.

We were enjoying our time in Rome, trying to head to the vatican when our bus stopped. We sat and waited for about 10 minutes, when we noticed a stream of young people walking all in the same directions. Realizing we weren't getting anywhere fast we jumped off the bus and decided to follow. That day we saw melted atms, smart cars on fire, passionate youth, and relaxed attitude of a police force used to riots. We were however tear gased.
